Education Is Also About Guidance: The Educator’s Role in Developing Leadership
Teaching leadership does not mean teaching young people how to direct others. It means helping them understand themselves, make decisions, take responsibility, and recognize the impact of their actions.
For this to happen, the educator’s role goes beyond delivering content. It also involves creating opportunities for students to reflect, participate, and learn through their own decisions.
The Sholem Leadership Method is built around this approach. Through videos, leadership examples, gamified activities, and a reflective Journal, students explore leadership concepts and connect them to situations from their own lives.
The educator or coordinator serves as a facilitator throughout the process. They can ask questions, encourage reflection, and help students connect the material to real experiences without having to become an expert in every topic addressed.
The methodology is structured so that learning builds from one step to the next: students are introduced to an idea, see it reflected in the actions of leaders, apply it through an activity, and then reflect on what it means for them.
Because developing leaders is not simply about teaching young people what leadership is. It is about giving them opportunities to discover how they can practice it in everyday life.
